Homemade Green Cleaners

For a Healthier Environment at Home

There was once a time where the products that we now take for granted to be at our nearest retail outlet, were made at home with common ingredients already found in most homes. As the economy changes and money becomes tighter, we begin to look at ways to save money. By creating at home a few of those everyday products we would normally purchase we will not only save ourselves money, we will enjoy environmentally safe alternatives.

Shower Heads can Turn an Ordinary Shower into Luxury

"you can also install multiple shower heads in the same shower for a true spa experience"

When you take a shower, is it just a chore that must be accomplished, or is it 10 minutes of bliss that you look forward to each day?  For most of us, showering is a chore to be hurried through, but with the right showerhead, you can turn that 10 minutes into a time of relaxation, where the cares of the world can simply melt away under a rush of calming hot water.

Aluminum Shutters

"Aluminum shutters are quickly surpassing wood in popularity because of their versatile, affordable and customizable nature."

If you are looking for a lightweight, inexpensive alternative to wooden shutters, consider aluminum shutters.  Newer manufacturing techniques can make aluminum shutters that look very similar to wood, so much so that they are being approved for use in historical restoration projects.  They are durable, customizable and have excellent sound and weather insulation.

The Proof is in the Pendant

Pendant lighting is alluring and the perfect addition to most homes.

Pendant lighting has a natural beauty to it. Suspending light above an object such as the kitchen island or dining table instantly creates a focal point for the room. With so many amazing pendant designs on the market today it will not be difficult to locate a beautiful pendant for your needs.

When choosing pendant lighting, the first decision is where it will hang in your home. The most popular places are above tables and counter or from vaulted ceilings. It is important your guests and family members never bonk their head on pendant lighting, so it has to hang well above the floor or in a location where people don’t walk (like the dining table). Next, determine how many lights you will need. Pendant lights are usually hung in groupings of odd numbers although there is no interior design police who will arrest you if you hang a row of four pendant lights.

Signs of Termite Damage

Termites can cause serious damage to a home, often before you even notice they are there.  Termite damage can make a house structurally unsound, causing thousands of dollars in repairs.  If you are considering buying a new home, or want to be sure your existing home is safe from damage, keep an eye out for the following signs of termite damage:

Bring the Fall Season in the Home

There is still time for autumn themed centerpieces.

Get the most out of the autumn season by adding some fall décor to your home. Decorating for a season rather than just holidays allows you to be festive without having to take down decorations on a tight schedule. Fall is a great time to get started collecting small pieces of affordable décor which will last from before Halloween to after Thanksgiving.

If this is the first year you have a home to decorate than starting a little late is the best move because plenty of décor is already on sale and discount. Here are some key décor pieces you should consider purchasing this fall season:

Wreaths: Autumn foliage wreaths are a beautiful piece of décor which can hang on the front door inside or outside. Leaves changing color in the fall is one of the greatest things to look forward to each year which is why wreaths are so popular and bring so much beauty to a home.

Centerpieces: Centerpieces are typically put on the dining table but are also appropriate for islands, breakfast nooks, inn tables and more. Fall centerpieces often feature gourds, pumpkins, autumn leaves, twigs and other things from nature. A good centerpiece will make your place look wonderful and especially inviting for guests.

Window Hangings: Window decals such as leaves, pumpkins and more can be great fun especially for kids. They may not be as mature and chic as other décor items, but for homes with children, window decals are a great fit because they aren’t breakable and very fun.

Start searching now for great deals on fall décor which you will enjoy for many years.

Now is the Time to Clean Kitchen Cabinets

"Depending on how heavily soiled they are, you may want to consider cleaning your cabinets up to three times per year"

Now that the weather is cooling off, urging us indoors, a little indoor maintenance is just the thing to stay busy – and warm.  At least once per year, and ideally twice, you should give your kitchen cabinets a thorough cleaning.  Cabinets that do not receive regular cleaning tend to get grease buildup around the stove, which can be impossible to remove without refinishing your cabinets.  A little preventive maintenance can save a lot of time and money in the future.

First, remove dishes from the cabinets and place them safely out of the way.  If you have a large kitchen, you may want to work in sections rather than trying to cram it all into one day.  After they are empty, use a brush or dry rag to sweep crumbs and dirt out of the shelves and off the face of the cabinets.
